Red and pink don’t go together!
There are many fashion rules that we as clothes-wearers are supposed to follow. No white between Labor Day and Easter, shoes must match the handbag, and certain color combinations are forbidden. I love breaking the rules. Rebellious, I am.
I’m finding the more I play around with fashion and my personal style, the more likely I am to take risks with color, pattern, and design. I also love a good contrasting color palette. You’ll very rarely find me in a monochromatic color scheme. So putting together an outfit that most might consider outside-the-box is kind of fun for me.
One way to easily pair two colors together is by colorblocking. That’s basically a fancy term for wearing big blocks of color. Here I’ve paired a block of ballerina pink with a block of tomato red. I love how the softness of the pink tempers the shock of the bright red.
Of course, some designers do the hard work and put the colors together for us, but I still think colorblocking is by far the most foolproof way to create this colorful look.
You can see I’ve added neutral accessories- brown pumps with gold jewelry, but a beaded necklace or earrings featuring the colors of your outfit is also a great way to tie everything together.
With this outfit I’ve paired the red and pink together in such a way that it’s eye-catching, but not unpleasant. There are other ways to combine these two that are little more risky. I love seeing red and hot pink together, for instance. You can see below for more examples of pairing these two similar shades together.
What do you think? Would you take the fashion risk?
