This last week, Austin was cold, gray, and rainy. I hated it. I’m such a sunshine person, so when I go so long without it, I get cranky and lazy. And I really dislike feeling cranky and lazy!
To combat the doldrums caused by dreary days I love to wear something bright and colorful. It always makes me feel sunny and more cheerful. Just like Meg Ryan’s character in You’ve Got Mail thinks daisies are the friendliest flower, I most definitely think yellow is the friendliest color!
Fun fact: when I was in middle school the topic of one of my dreaded science fair projects was the affect of color on blood pressure. My findings showed that being surrounded by red slightly increased the subject’s BP, and blue slightly lowered it. So, no surprise I’m a firm believer that our attitude and mood is affected by what we are surrounded by. Plus, I’ve just always been a color lover.
Yellow is known for being a cheerful color, the color of sunshine and happiness. I know when I wear it, I definitely feel more cheerful and usually have a better attitude. Yellow is the easiest color for the eye to see, and (bonus!) it’s various shades and hues can be worn with every other color. If you feel uncomfortable wearing a larger piece in bright yellow, remember that you can always wear a yellow necklace or bracelet and still get some of the effect!
Here I’ve paired it with my most comfortable jeans, a denim tunic with leopard belt, and suede oxfords. Perfect for being out and about running errands- yes I am the type to wear heels all day long!
And I don’t just wear yellow. It’s a terrific color to decorate with as well. I have little bits of yellow scattered throughout my home. From my yellow hard-back Nancy Drew collection to my bright coffee table, it definitely catches your eye.
What’s your favorite go-to color when you need a quick mood or energy boost?
