Feeling festive in red, white, and blue!
Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. I love the way we, as a family, celebrate it. It’s all about getting together with friends, enjoying the outdoors, good food, fireworks, and lots of playing. Yeah, we’re all usually a sweaty grimy mess at the end of the night, but it’s always worth it.
Of course, the day wouldn’t feel right without dressing for the occasion. My husband has his Independence Day uniform- a grey Old Navy tee with a picture of the American flag on it. I’m not sure why, but it’s become his tradition to wear that tee every Fourth of July, and since 2001, he has.
As for me? I still love to get a little dressed up, even if I do eventually end up looking like a hot mess.
I’ll normally wear something like this breezy maxi dress. Blue and white chevron with red wedges? Yes, please!
This particular dress is great for any figure. The smocked waist helps cinch the middle and combined with the wide-set shoulders it highlights the narrowness of the waist. I tied the hem into a knot to give the bottom some interest and to show a little leg.
Although we consider red, white, and blue to be a patriotic color palette, it’s also a very traditional one. This particular look would work any time of the year!
Feeling less traditional but still love the idea of red, white, and blue? You can wear different shades of these colors together and still have the same effect.
Why not try pink, white, and blue?! These Old Navy linen pants are fantastic to wear on a hot day. They’re light and airy with a fold-over yoga waist that is so comfortable. Adding pink and denim blue still works for Independence Day because they are versions of the original color scheme. And giraffe pumps. Because those are good with everything.
Don’t be afraid to play around with different colors, patterns, and textures. It’s amazing how much fun you can have, and you might find your next favorite look!
Happy Independence Day, everyone! Enjoy!!
